Thank you so much for supporting queer karaoke nights
volunteer with us!
Our team of four hosts manages to set up for these events in about 4 hours. However, with the help of volunteers, we've cut down the setup time to just 45 minutes! If you're able and willing to help, please contact us to join our volunteer list. Your support makes a significant difference!

Meet the Team
-
Bret RACINE (They/Them)
Bret, is our Florida raised, hockey obsessed, resident ace lesbian witch who is here to steal your cat for their own and teach them socialism. They work two day jobs, both as other people's assistants, so keeping Baltimore Queer Events organized and on schedule comes natural to them! You'll always find Bret on their phone, somehow working and playing at the same time.
They're big into creating spaces for LGBT+ friends, online and off. If you're in the Bmore Sapphics facebook group or discord server, you've seen Bret as a mod; they also run a discord server for the Baltimore witchy community!
You'll see Bret running all over the place at karaoke - be sure to remind them to sit down and take a break for once!

DEADRIA CLARKE (THEY/THEM)
Meet Deadria - a vibrant soul navigating the realms of art, activism, and hospitality with boundless creativity and unwavering dedication.
As a part-time beertender in Baltimore, Deadria thrives in the hustle and bustle of the city's eclectic beer scene, pouring libations and fostering connections with every smile and
pour.
Their journey as a creator took a pivotal turn when conversations with Bret & Katie illuminated the need for accessible information about queer events in Baltimore. From those dialogues emerged a passion project: the creation of transformative queer events that resonate across the city.
Beyond the bar counter, Deadria's lens finds solace and storytelling in the world of photography. With each click, they capture the essence of moments, the beauty of diversity, and the resilience of the human spirit.
In the quiet moments between clicks and pours, Deadria finds solace in the company of their faithful canine companion, Domino, whose boundless energy and unwavering loyalty inspire adventures and moments of reflection alike.

KATIE SIMBALA (SHE/HER)
Katie is a Latina indie filmmaker and the proud owner of Kap2ure Film Studios. Katie identifies as bisexual and is currently in a closed polyamorous triad with her partners, Luis of 18 years and Raquel of 10 years. Together, they are raising their 8-year-old son in the arts district of Highlandtown with a new baby girl on the way.
Having grown up immersed in the church, she began her career working for religious organizations as a worship pastor and creative director. When she came out, she encountered pushback and ultimately lost her job because of her decision to live authentically.
Despite this setback, Katie firmly believes in the power of community and draws strength from her background in starting churches and supporting various faith orgs and non-profits. This valuable experience has provided her with a unique perspective in creating a new kind of gathering community. i.e. Queer Karaoke and the WE. Worship Pop-Ups.
Her dedication to LGBTQ+ inclusion in faith spaces and representation shines through her work, both behind the camera and in her everyday life.

SANTI (THEY/THEM)
They are a 30 year old polyamorous, queer, nonbinary parent. They are Puerto Rican & IrishE Wl, born in England, and lived in Japan & California as a child before moving to Maryland.
They've been with their nesting partner, Gabriel, for over 4 years and work as grounds maintenance for the local Parks & Rec. They are an Aquarius O Pisces Gemini, have a house full of plants, practice Druidry, love anime, cosplaying, reading, going for hikes with their dogs, enjoy cooking and love singing of course!
(In fact the idea for Queer Karaoke stemmed from a conversation with Katie about wanting to do a karaoke night with friends!) They are a self described Anarcho Ecosocialist, involved in local activism, community care & mutual aid groups.
FAQs
how often does queer karaoke night (QKN) happen?
To ensure no one on our team experiences burn out, we’ve decide it to keep our events limited to 4 times a year. One for every season! So expect us to promote a Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter themed night.
is Qkn free?
Yes, and No. We understand that our queer community exists on a spectrum in every way including how much expendable income is available to each person. We believe that money should never put a stop to a good time, so we ask that our financially able queers get some pay-it -forward tickets to offer them to those who can not pay the ticket entry. Tickets are on a sliding scale starting at $5.
parking & accessibility?
We are one of the few venues in the city that boasts a very large parking lot and plenty of street parking as well! We offer 2 Handicap parking spaces with a ramp up to our studio location for those with accessibility concerns.
Is there food and bar?
We are grateful for the vendors that join us for each QKN to provide food truck service on the outside part of our building. We do not have a full bar at this studio location, the events are BYOB and we have mixers and mocktails for sale.
Who makes the profit?
All money collected is used towards covering the costs of the next event. None of the hosts get a cut of any of the money that passes through QKN only reimbursements. Early on we decided these events are for OUR community put on by community members for community sake! Which is why we have tickets on a sliding scale to make it accessible to all.
